VDE-trip to Berlin
On Thursday took place an excursion of the university group of the VDE Magdeburg to Berlin, in which in addition to students of the OvGU and the Magdeburg University participated also employees of the LENA.
The group spent the morning in the switchgear factory of Siemens. After a brief introduction to the history of Siemens company at the Berlin location began a two-hour tour through the factory grounds with a size of almost 35 football fields. It went through the production halls, where switchgears for the medium and high voltage are produced. The way through the production halls was accompanied by many technical details and explanations from the Siemens employee. Here was given a small insight into the complex production steps and technical complexity of switchgears. The tour ended with a visit to the parabolic hall, where an external and independent company is testing for Siemens its R&D projects in the area of switchgears.
In the afternoon the guide showed the group the EUREF campus and tell about the subject of micro-smart grids. On this campus is tested the networking inside the buildings, but also tested the networking of several buildings with PV systems, battery storage and e-mobility. Here was a lively exchange about the potential but also challenges of such a micro-smart grid. The tour gave a very good overview of what is already possible today and what Germany will have in terms of integrated energy systems in future.
We would like to thank Mr. Funk from Siemens company for the informative tour of the switchgear factory and Mr. Simmang from VDE for the interesting tour through the EUREF campus.
