Dresdener Kreis 2023 at Helgoland
LENA staff took part in this year's "Dresdener Kreis" June 13th to 15th, which was held on the island of Helgoland this year. In addition to the group from Magdeburg, colleagues from Dresden, Duisburg and Hanover also took part, as they do every year.
After arriving in Hamburg, the universities had dinner together on Tuesday evening before taking the ferry to Helgoland on Wednesday. A total of eight technical lectures were held in two blocks. The LENA Chair was represented in the first block by Mauro dos Santos Ortiz, who spoke on the topic of his doctorate "Methodology for Projection of the Diffusion of Electric Vehicles in Residential Consumers". After a coffee break, Tahaguas Woldu presented his field of research in his technical lecture on "Dynamic Security Enhancement in Power Networks with High Share of Wind and Solar-PV Power Generations". Afterwards all eight lectures were discussed with overall about 50 participants in order to answer the questions of the audience. The newly acquired ideas could be discussed in more depth in the evening during another joint dinner.
On Thursday, the day on Helgoland started with a tour of the RWE Renewables Trident Offshore GmbH site on Helgoland. The employees presented, among other things, the control room with which the various wind farms are monitored. In addition, the participants of the "Dresdener Kreis" were also allowed to visit the helicopter that is used by RWE to bring the technicians to their place of work in higher waves. However, the highlight of the day was a boat trip to the new Kaskasi offshore wind farm, which RWE offshore has been operating off the coast of Helgoland since 2022. The ship sailed to within a few metres of the wind turbines, which was only possible with an exceptional permit from RWE offshore. In addition, some RWE offshore employees were available to answer the participants' questions during the trip.
The Dresdener Kreis 2023 ended with the ferry's return journey to Hamburg. The LENA Chair would like to thank this year's organisers from the University of Hanover as well as the employees of RWE offshore for the great organisation of this year's "Dresdener Kreis". Next year, the meeting of the different chairs will be organised by the University in Duisburg.
