Kick-Off Meeting „Smart Multi-Energy-Systems” (SmartMES)
On Wednesday, February 22, the kick-off meeting of the project „Smart Mulit-Energy-Systems“ (SmartMES) took place at the experimental factory Magdeburg. The project is founded by the Ministry of Economy, Science and Digitization by resources of the European funds for regional development. Within the next 3 years, research assistants at the University and regional companies and research institutes, namely the ABO Wind AG, the Fraunhofer IFF and the municipal utility, Stadtweke Burg Energienetze mbH (SWB), that act as associated partner, will develop new concepts and ideas regarding the operation of multi-energy-systems.
The kick-off meeting was opened by a brief introduction and acknowledgement by Prof. Martin Wolter. Subsequently, Prof. Helmut Weiß, the Vice President for Academic Development and Financial Planning of the Otto-von-Guericke-University of Magdeburg (OvGU), and Thomas Gerke, consultant of the Ministry of Economy, Science and Digitization (MW), expressed the importance of the regional exchange of expertise in their keynotes speeches. Following these speeches, the technical part ends with 3 presentations about multi-energy-systems in general and the project SmartMES in particular. The start was made by Dr. Pio Lombardi from the Fraunhofer IFF in Magdeburg who introduced the use cases of multi-energy systems and the corresponding research programs at the Fraunhofer IFF. Afterwards, Jörg Wirtz from ABO Wind AG presents first ideas and approaches that will be implemented in the energy park Barleben and can influence the further work in the project SmartMES. Finally, Christian Klabunde from the Chair of Electric Power Networks and Renewable Energy Sources presents the motivation and goals of the project SmartMES.
The event ends with a small lunch to discuss the presentations and to exchange ideas and experiences regarding multi-energy-systems.
