Dresdener Kreis 2018 in Magdeburg
This year, the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg hosted the annual meeting of the "Dresdener Kreis" which took place from 20th to 21st March. In addition to the researchers from the chair of LENA colleagues from Hanover, Dresden and Duisburg participated in this event.
The meeting began on Tuesday with a guided tour of the Wolmirstedt substation. In its old control room, in accordance with the tradition of the “Dresdener Kreis”, participants of all four universities gave an insight on their current research work. In the first session, consisting of four lectures, the University of Magdeburg was represented by Mr. M.Sc. Christian Ziegler who presented the topic "Transient stability for the multiple machine problem - stability consideration with the law of equal areas". After a coffee break Mr. Yonggang Zhang lectured on "Analysis and control of stimulation of harmonics and frequencies in hybrid AC / DC grids with inverter dominated generation" in the second session. In subsequent discussions with the auditorium questions were discussed and valuable suggestions for future work could be gained. Other lecturers covered a wide range of topics - from the implementation of the factor in distance protection through the optimization potential of reactive power exchange to resonance investigations in transmission networks. The day ended with a joint dinner in which the participants could further discuss completed and future research projects in a comfortable atmosphere.
Special thanks to 50 Hertz Transmission GmbH for providing the conference location - the old control center of the substation in Wolmirstedt.
On Wednesday, a boat trip to the Rothensee boat lift were planned. During the boat trip along the Elbe, the participants of the "Dresdener Kreis" passed the Magdeburg Water Bridge. After several locks in which heights of up to 19 meters had to be overcome, the Elbe-Havel Canal was reached and then the river Elbe was crossed via the Magdeburg Water Bridge. The trip ended at the Rothensee boat lift where tour guides explained the operating principle and the significance of the boat lift as well as its history. After lunch, the participants of the "Dresdener Kreis" started their journey home. The chair of LENA would like to thank the organizers Ms. M.Sc. Tamara Schröter and Mr. M.Sc. Marc Gebhardt for the successful planning and realization of the "Dresdener Kreis". The research group of the LENA looks forward to 2019 when they will be guests at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover.
