LENA at the UPEC in Great Britain

18.09.2024 -

This year's UPEC conference took place from September 2nd to 6th, 2024 at Cardiff University in Great Britain. It was the 59th edition of the international Universities Power Engineering Conference. The LENA chair was represented by Renata Lautert and Maja Maletz.

Both presented their previously submitted conference paper. Ms. Renata Lautert gave a presentation on the topic “Real-Time Power Dispatch in Grid-Connected Microgrids using Deep Q-Learning”. This paper presents a methodology to optimize the operation of an Energy Storage System in a microgrid with PV generation. The goal is to reduce overall costs and maintain network stability through the application of the Deep Q-Network algorithm.

The second presentation of the LENA chair was given by Ms. Maja Maletz on the topic of “Analysis of the expansion plan for renewable electrical energy.” The core topic of the research work is to analyse whether Germany can meet the targets of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG 2023) with the current rate of expansion of renewable electrical energy sources. The results presented aroused the interest of other conference participants, which led to exciting questions and discussions with researchers from other countries following the two presentations.

In addition to around 120 presentations by scientists from over 30 nations, the focus of UPEC was on scientific and cultural exchange. The participants had the opportunity to network internationally and gain new perspectives on various research topics in the field of electrical energy technology.

The LENA Chair would like to thank this year's organizers at Cardiff University for the successful realisation of UPEC 2024. Next year, UPEC will take place at Brunel University London in early September 2025.
